传统研究,对于明代书画艺术的发展,向来看重文人书画大家及其门下优秀弟子之表现,而对明皇室家族中之诸多能书善画者,则被排除在焦点之外。实际上,明代皇室家族的书画创作虽不能囊括整个明代的书画史,但他们掌管明廷书画机构、内府书画鉴藏,其艺术取向及艺术活动,都直接影响、甚至左右着当时的书坛与画坛,在明代书画发展史上书写了重要的一页。
