Eliot Spitzer, chief prosecutor of the United States in New York, has filed a lawsuit against a company that has accused the company of illegally selling an e-mail address and describing it as the largest Internet-based intentional invasion of personal privacy. DATRAN MEDIA, the defendant in New York City, agreed to redress its actions and paid $ 1.1 million in damages for the theft of 6 million e-mail addresses. These e-mails were purchased from some companies and one of them promised registered users the chance to get free iPod, TV and DVD discs. Although many people did receive a free iPod, their mailbox was filled with a variety of promotional emails.
