臭椿在我区山、川均有栽培。生长较快,树姿美观,既抗烟尘,又耐盐碱,是城市绿化的良好树种之一。据记载,臭椿的花为杂性,或单性或两性。据我们近年解剖观察,过去所谓的两性花,它的雄蕊是不能正常发育的,是一种典型的雄性不育的雌花。有的植株只具有雄花,在每个小花上有10枚发育正常的雄蕊,雌蕊完全退化;而有的植株却具有雄性不育花,从外表上看既具有雄蕊又具有雌蕊。观察表明,臭椿明显的呈现出雌雄异株。
