四金属切削中的自激振动在没有周期性外力的作用下,由系统内部激发及反馈的相互作用而产生的稳定的周期性振动,称为自激振动。切削加工时的自激振动又称颤振。它不仅降低了机床的加工质量和切削效率,而且对机床和刀具的寿命带来危害,还会增加噪声,所以避免和抑制它,是设计、制造和使用机床的一个重要的课题。自激振动与自由振动相比,虽然两者都是在没有周期性外力作用下产生的振动,但自由振动在阻尼的作用下将逐渐衰减而消失,而自激振动会从振动过程中不断地吸取能量,补偿阻尼的消耗使系统作稳定的等幅振动,所以,它相当于是一种不消逝的自由振动。自激振动与受迫振动相比,都属于稳定的等幅振动。
