介绍日本铁路新干线车辆减轻重量的必要性及为此而采用新金属材料所进行的研究。将铁道车辆与飞机和汽车作了比较，说明在铁道车辆上减轻重量大有潜力。
Describe the necessity of reducing the weight of the Shinkansen vehicles on the Japan Railways and the research on the use of new metallic materials for this purpose. A comparison of rail vehicles with airplanes and cars shows that there is great potential for weight reduction in railway vehicles.
