油桐种子榨出的油叫桐油。桐油是我国的特产,是重要的出口物资和工业用油。它的油渣是一种优质有机肥料,每百斤相当于17.3斤硫酸铵的含氮量或一千斤纯牛粪的肥效。油桐的果壳和树叶也是好肥料。油桐须根发达,植于台地内可以固坎,种在岩地上可以保土,是一种很好的水土保持树种。因此,种植油桐对支援国家社会主义建设,促进工农业生产具有重要意义。
