吸烟对健康带来的危害已逐渐为人们所认识.烟草的烟雾中含有多种有害物质,其中危害最大的是烟焦油、尼古丁、一氧化碳、氰化物等.国外的大量调查证明,吸烟可导致肺癌、慢性气管炎、肺气肿、冠心病、溃疡病等疾病,使人的寿命大大缩短.目前有一种说法是吸烟可以提神,尤其是对脑力劳动者.其实,这是烟草中尼古丁的作用,尼古丁可刺激人的交感神经,使心跳加快,血压升高,出现一种暂时的兴奋作用.但其害处却远远大于此,因此吸烟犹如饮鸠止渴.
