Cixi is a rich city in eastern Zhejiang Province. The city and its surrounding rural areas are known for its material wealth due to its strong township manufacturing industry and business. Today, Cixi is also known for its new cultural wealth. Among other things, the city now boasts 50 village parks.It all started with a small village unknown to outsiders before the growing in parks set in.About 25 kilometers east of downtown Cixi stands a hill where, according to local folklore, General Qi Jiguang of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) once stationed his army to fight invading Japanese pirates. Nestled against the hill is a village called “outside west gate ”. The village has put itself on the local map by building a large park for villagers.
