72年前,有位权威的西方学者、思想家这样评论道:“中国与其说是一个政治实体,还不如说是一个文明实体——一个唯一幸存至今的文明。孔子以 来,埃及、巴比伦、波斯、马其顿,包括罗马的帝国,都消亡了;但是中国以持续的进化生存下来了。它受到了外国的影响——最先是佛教,现在是西方的科学。但是佛教没有把中国人变成印度人,西方科学也不会将中国人变成欧洲人”(罗素语)。 应当说,这是一种既深思熟虑又富有远见的看法。
72 years ago, an authoritative western scholar and thinker commented: “China is not so much a political entity as a civilized entity - the only civilization that has survived to this day. Since Confucius, Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Macedonia, including the Empire of Rome, have vanished; but China has survived a sustained evolution that has been influenced by foreign influences - first Buddhism and now Western science, but Buddhism did not turn the Chinese into Indians, Western science will not turn the Chinese into Europeans ”(Russell). It should be said that this is a thoughtful and far-sighted view.
