据国外报导,海藻类植物有较大的医学作用价值。美国加利福尼亚大学水生生物科学实验室和公共卫生学校有人试验了28种红藻、绿藻和褐藻类的标本,他们发现只有红藻门植物(Rhodophyta)的标本含有一种能防止单纯疱疹病毒(Ⅰ和Ⅱ型)繁殖的活性物质。上述两种病毒引起常见的唇疱疹、疱疹性角膜炎和一种比梅毒还常见的性病,生殖器疱疹。
According to foreign reports, seaweed plants have a greater medical value. Specimens of 28 species of red algae, green algae and brown algae were tested in the Aquatic Biological Science Laboratory and Public Health School of the University of California at the University of California, San Diego. They found that only specimens of Rhodophyta contain a substance that prevents herpes simplex virus (I And type Ⅱ) propagation of active substances. Both of these viruses cause common cold sores, herpes keratitis and a sexually transmitted disease that is more common than syphilis, genital herpes.
