Chlorophylls are the major pigments that harvest light energy and drive electron transfer during photosynthesis in plants.They are biosynthesized in chloroplasts via a branch of the tetrapyrrole metabolic pathway that involves sequential enzymatic conversion by more than a dozen nucleus-encoded plastid-localized enzymes.
