近年来,除了312国道,贯穿常州南北的京杭大运河对常州经济与社会发展的制约也逐步显露,因此常州人制定了一个伟大的决策:将运河和312同时改线。312国道常州改线段利用已经建成的常州南环线和正在实施的京杭大运河改线线位,从常州市区与武进区之间穿城而过,直至邹区,接镇江。全长40.3公里,扩建断面标准为25.5米(17.1公里)、40米(1.7公里)、43.5米(21.5公里);主要工程量为:拆迁房屋31万平方米,路基土石方250万方、软基处理97万延米、桥梁18座(其中互通1座)。工程概算总投资约14亿元。
