Graphite / polyimide composite is a new type of resin-based high temperature resistant composite material developed in the late seventies. It is jointly developed by NASA Langley Research Center and several contractors for advanced space transportation system engineering Developed. It has extremely outstanding thermo-oxidative stability (a feature not found in any of the currently used resin-based composites). And also has the advantages of light weight, high mechanical properties and good processing performance and other comprehensive superior performance. No single material (either metallic or non-metallic) is currently fully rated as good on these key performance indicators, so graphite / polyimides have been considered as extremely advanced composite materials for space transportation systems, aerospace Aircraft and launch vehicles and other space structures of the potential candidates.
