“--让我成为知识的探索者,让我在未知的道路上遨游,让我用我的创造力把我居住的世界变得更美好!”这三句话是OM的宗旨。OM是头脑奥林匹克竞赛的缩写,其全称为“ODYSSEY OF THE MIND”。活动分长期题、即兴题和风格三项。它是一项国际性的培养青少年创造力的活动, 1976年由美国新泽西州葛拉斯堡罗州立学院教授Mr.Samuel Micklus发起,从1978年开始,每年在美国举行一次世界性的决赛。目前国际上已有美、俄、英、德、日等几十个国家参加。里根、布什、克林顿等美国前总统以派夫人参加颁奖大会、发表录像讲话、给参赛者写信等形式表示对这一活动的支持。中国从1988年开始,首先在上海开展此项活动,目前全国已有12个省市组织开展了这一活动。

It is an international activity to nurture adolescent creativity. It was initiated by Mr. Samuel Micklus, a professor at Colorado State College in Glassboro, NJ, in 1976. Since 1978, it has held a global final each year in the United States. At present, dozens of countries including the United States, Russia, Britain, Germany, and Japan have participated in the international community. Reagan, Bush, Clinton and other former U.S. presidents expressed their support for this event by sending their wife to the awarding ceremony, making video speeches, and writing letters to the participants. China started this activity in Shanghai in 1988. At present, 12 provinces and cities across the country have organized this activity.
