Ian McEwan (1948-) is one of the most influential writers in the UK today. His works have won numerous awards such as the Maugham Literature Award and the Booker Prize. After reading Ian McEwan’s book for the first time, I only see indifference, desolation, and speechlessness. Later, I slowly began to appreciate the author’s good intentions and show the darkness in order to make people realize the danger. Avoid the pitfalls of growth and life. Show horrifying chaos, is to attract enough attention and think about what is order. “Cement Garden” is such a work. This article attempts to use Aristotle’s tragedy theory to analyze the tragedy of “Cement Garden” plot.
