Many epidemiological data support the hypothesis that certain antibody responses exhibit blocking activity in helminth infection, especially in schistosomiasis. In this paper, a simple mathematical model was used to explore the age-specific relationship between antibody levels, worm burden and re-infection rates in different combinations of protective immune response, ineffective response and blockade response. Studies show that a positive correlation between antibody levels and rates of re-infection after chemotherapy in these patterns can not provide definitive evidence of blocking activity. And suggested that blockade activity could affect the shape of the age-infection intensity curve as well as the relationship between susceptibility and age, which may not necessarily be consistent with epidemiological data.
