The “Seminar on Highly Effective Prestressed Concrete Technology Development” jointly organized by the National Building Engineering Technology Research Center, the China Civil Engineering Society, the Prestressed Concrete Institute, and the Ministry of Construction’s Architectural New Technology Promotion and Application Office was held in Beijing on March 28, 1996. The conference was held with representatives from experts and scholars in the field of pre-stressed concrete and high-rise building structures. After two days of very enthusiastic and serious discussions, the delegates reached a consensus on certain key technologies and their application and promotion, and proposed the following Recommendations: 1. Prestressed concrete is widely used in high-rise building structures. However, there is no norm to be followed. The regulations for the design and construction of reinforced concrete high-rise building structures and the seismic design code for buildings do not involve prestressed concrete structures.
