I. What is formalism in student’s mathematics knowledge? Formalism in student’s knowledge is a habit that has not yet been completely eradicated in school work. It can be described as having only some surface attributes of knowledge and unreliable knowledge. The basic characteristics of formal knowledge are: (1) separation of form and content; (2) disengagement of theory and practice; (3) better understanding of death than comprehension; (4) rigid formula dominant position. Formal knowledge is not actual, it is dead, useless knowledge.
