Massachusetts Institute of Technology economist Josh Angling’s meticulous research methods have influenced other scholars more than 20 years. Now he is focusing his fire on factors that make some schools stand out. Josh Angrist is a well-regarded empirical researcher who does not work in the lab. The economist has a simple office in the MIT E52 building, the most prominent of which is a bicycle that often leans against a wall. The 52-year-old Angriste is physically fit, dark-skinned and gray-haired, riding a bike to work almost daily. In recent years, he has always insisted on going hand in hand with a cyclist who is only half as young as his age, riding on mountain lanes on weekends.
