1高尔基(1868—1936)出生于俄国伏尔加河畔的一个木工家庭,小时候家里很穷,没有办法,他只好到一家裁缝店当学徒。在裁缝店里,高尔基一边干活,一边想方设法读书,老板订了一份《俄罗斯报》,小高尔基趁老板不在时,偷偷看这份报纸。2有一次,高尔基从邻居家借来一本小说,趁老板晚上睡着以后,在窗边借着月光津津有味地读了起来。夜深了,高尔基就点燃小油灯继续看。不料被老板发现,老板怒气冲冲地说:“看什么看,你把我的灯油都快用光了!”老板娘闻声,开始殴打高尔基。高尔基无法忍受下去,他头也不回地离开了裁缝店。
1 Gorky (1868-1936) was born in a carpentry family by the Volga River in Russia. When she was a child, she was poor and had no alternative. He had to go to a tailor shop to become an apprentice.
