The problem of carburizing magnesium with liquid slag as heat transfer medium and polymerization impurity medium was discussed. The thermodynamic aspects of selecting and using some of the slags were studied, and a model predictive of the purity of magnesium was developed. The data obtained from the electric arc furnace test show that magnesium leaves the electric furnace in the form of molecular gas such as Mg / CO with a purity of up to 99%.
