经济发展和道德进步是社会主义精神文明建设中的一个重大问题。全面科学地理解这一问题,对于贯彻党的十四届六中全会精神,把精神文明建设不断推向前进具有重要意义。(一)经济发展与道德进步的关系问题由来已久。在西方社会的历史上,特别是西方近代以来,每当社会处于剧烈变动,经济与科技乃至社会文明取得长足发展的时期,人们就不可避免地要经受一次伦理道德危机的炼狱,由此诱发出一场关于经济发展对伦理道德产生何种影响的争论。争论出现许多观点,但往往都以经济发展与道德进步充满着矛盾的二律背反这样的论点占主导地位。卢梭、黑格尔就是其典型代表。虽然卢梭与黑格尔两人考虑问题的出发点和方式不同,但殊途同归,就其对这一问题的处理上最终表达的是一个完全一致的思想,这就是经济发展与道德进步之间存在着不可避免的二律背反。(二)关于经济发展和道德进步的关系,马克思主义经典作家有过精辟的论述和见解。在《家庭、私有制和国家的起源》一书中,恩格斯曾经说过:“部落始终是人们的界限,无论对别一部落的人来说,或者对他们自己来说都是如此:部落、氏族及
