First, INTRODUCTION Synopsis: “The happiness of the first people” is selected from the award-winning essay of American middle school students. The author portrayed the schools of the 1950s with a wealth of imagination. The protagonists Tommy and Margie are twelve-year-old boys and girls. Tommy found a crumpled and yellow textbook on the top of the screen. The two children read it eagerly. The book describes a school where people read books hundreds of years ago. The schools at that time were very different from their schools: Teachers were held by people instead of computers. Words were printed on books rather than on the screen. Classrooms were set up in specialized teaching buildings instead of everyone’s homes. Children go to school together instead of studying in their own home. The 22nd century schools are much more advanced and quieter than their predecessors’ schools. But why did Margie always think of old schools when he was in class and envy the joy of the people? Ask the students to read the following stories carefully. Make your own answer.
