教师的任职资格在美国各类学校,当教师必须有学历资格和教师资格证书,在特殊教育学校当教师,要求就更高。俄州聋校录用教师的标准有四条:一是大学毕业,二是有州教育行政部门颁发的教师资格证书,三是有美国聋人教育委员会颁发的证书,四是必须参加“手语交谈熟练性面试”测评,运用美国手语达到优良水平。这四条是最基本的条件。对求职于某些岗位的教师还有进一步的任职资格要求。例如,想当讲授美国手语的教师在掌握手语的程度上必须达到 SCPI 测定的优秀水平,并且获得讲授美国手语的教师资格证书。“教师资格证书获得的标准由各州制定。但有一条是肯定的,即这类标准逐步在提高,它要求教师应具备的知识面更广。因此,已经在职的教师定期还要参加考核。
