The function of the signature must be able to explain some idea, and the meaning of the signature is undoubtedly more profound than the sign that sent it, but it still has to be associated with the sign. If we are content to sign an abstract view and think it lacks anything inherent, then we still can not understand why we are impressed by a person’s name or mind. The problem is that we want to describe them rather than reduce them to something else and grasp their reality. It is in this sense that the extraordinary life that Marx’s name implies, distinct from traditional philosophy, is particularly implicit in what he thinks.
