In early July 1997, Professor Ye Zhibiao, deputy director of the Department of Horticulture, Wuhan Huazhong Agricultural University, successfully researched the safety of genetically modified tomatoes that passed the National Agricultural Genetically Engineered Safety Management Committee and were approved for commercial production. After 10 years of researching on agricultural biogenic genetic engineering in China, it has finally become a reality step toward commercialized production. Agricultural genetic engineering has arrived for a new era in which our country’s agricultural work has been done. It is foreseeable that in the next few years, a batch of genetically modified agricultural products will be allowed to put on the market centrally
