三星堆两个祭祀坑的发现是出于一个偶然的机会,那是1986年的7月18日砖厂职工在三星堆遗址第二发掘区取土时,在距地表深约两米之处挖开一号祭祀坑东侧底部的一角,出土石器十余件,当时在场的农民工立即报告了我们。那时我和陈德安还有四川大学考古专业勤工俭学的学生朱章义、张文彦、刘章泽几个人正在三星堆遗址砖厂宿舍(现三星堆工作站所在)内整理三星堆遗址上半年的发掘资料,我们接到这个报告后立即赶到距我们整理驻地约100米远的现场。到现场一看,大家都感到非常吃惊,出土的玉石器有玉戈、玉璋等,全是一些礼器,而这些器物就出在我们这年上半年(2~6月)发掘的第二区,而且离原发掘点仅二三十米远。这一发现让我们想到在此之前在这里发现的两个小坑 Sanxingdui two sacrificial pits found out by chance, it is 1986 July 18 brick factory workers in Sanxingdui second excavation site soil, at a distance of about two meters from the surface dig a No. Sacrificial pit east corner of the bottom of the unearthed stone more than 10 pieces, then the presence of migrant workers immediately reported us.
