50年代初水力旋流器即已问世,1951年,荷兰人方丹首次在美国获得了水力旋流器专利。此后荷兰国家矿山管理局在发展、设置和推广这种设备方面起了重要作用。水介质旋流器是一种仅采用水和离心力按比重分选固体颗粒的重力分选设备。坦率地说,水介质旋流器由于性能较差,难以被迅速推广采用。但是它有结构简单、占地面积小、维护工作量少的优点,加之重介质及相应的介质回收设备不足,而这种装置的成本又低,故水介质旋流器多安设在高效洗选设备前作为粗选设备。
