Dubais skyline already features the worlds tallest building and a fivestar hotel located on its own island, but the city is set to get yet another distinctive structure in 2020: the worlds first rotating skyscraper.
Designed by IsraeliItalian architect David Fisher, the residential and commercial property will reportedly stand 1,375 feet tall and feature 80 floors capable of rotating a full 360 degrees, allowing guests the opportunity to enjoy everchanging views of Dubai through its floortoceiling windows, according to LuxuryLaunches.com.
Voiceactivated technology will allow building residents and guests to aim their apartment views at their preferred skyscapers, too.
“Hotel guests will be given the unique opportunity to shape the building and choose their view, thus redefining completely luxury in the hospitality sector,” design firm Dynamic Architecture details on its official website.
“In doing so, they will also design the building and the skyline of the city.”
The tower will also be able to provide its own power utilizing wind turbines located between floors, as well as solar powers on the roof. Fisher even says the building will generate 10 times more energy than it uses, reports Inhabitant. A promotional YouTube video posted by Dynamic Architecture in 2010 suggests that, like the fivestar Burj Al Arab hotel, the tower will sit on a plot of reclaimed land off the coast of the city.
The project was first announced in 2008 with a projected completion date of 2010, but plans were put on hold before construction could start.
Now, according to NoCamels.com and also confirmed by Whats On, Dynamic Architecture has plans to complete the tower by 2020 to coincide with the citys World Expo.
Inhabitant reports that individual apartments are expected to start at $30 million. Amenities will include swimming pools, elevated gardens, and an elevator that will bring the guests cars directly to their apartments.
Apart from its residences, Dynamic Architects categorizes the tower as a “future hotel” on its site, although they say they prefer to describe its lodgings as “wellness experiences”. Says the design firm, “This dynamic experience will offer exclusive services, luxurious accommodation and facilities for the traveler with the most cuttingedge technologies, whether for business or leisure.”

It is common for a Chinese person to have an English name. We have been told that Chinese pin yin is so difficult that our foreign friends may not able to pronounce our Chinese names correctly. For the sake of communicating convenience, we often prefer to use an English name when making friends with foreigners.
“My name is Li Sichen, but you can call me Lily.” I always say my English name when I introduce myself to foreigners. Lily is the name given to me by a foreign English teacher when I attended my first English class at the age of seven. Years later, I got my second English name “Stella” from a Chinese English teacher at college. I choose which name I use depending on my mood. Honestly, I am not a fan of my English names. Compared with my Chinese name, they are too plain and common. But I still used them when I studied in the UK.
However, recent news indicates a trend that a growing number of young Chinese students overseas are not willing to replace their Chinese names with English ones.
“Say my Name” is a video clip made by Chinese students at Columbia University that went viral on social networking websites last week. The video, in which Chinese students explain the cultural meanings and implication of their names, is a discontented response to recent actions at Columbia University that some Chinese nametags were taken off dormitory doors.
Traditionally, the image of Chinese people is known to be meek when faced with conflicts, especially for those living overseas. Being a minority abroad, they usually choose to keep low key and intentionally mute their voice as a way to avoid unnecessary troubles and to stay safe.
I remember there was a time when Chinese who had an English name were considered yangqi. Some Chinese would use an English name even in a Chinese environment. However, I think this will soon be outdated.
46. People prefer to use an English name when making friends with foreigners in order to .
A. pronounce correctly
B. communicate conveniently
C. communicate fluently
D. pronounce accurately
47. What is True about the writers name?
A. Lily is the name given to her by a Chinese English teacher.
B. Her second English name “Stella” was from her English teacher.
C. She prefers to use her English name Lily when making friends.
D. She calls herself Lily when she introduces herself to foreigners.
48. The underlined word ‘meek’ most likely means .
A. offensiveB. modest
C. aggressiveD. neutral
49. What is the authors opinion about “Some Chinese would use an English name even in a Chinese environment”?
A. She thinks this will soon be popular.
B. She thinks this will soon be accepted.
C. She thinks this will soon be out of date.
D. She thinks this will soon be avoided.
50. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. It is common for a Chinese person to have an English name.
B. All Chinese would use an English name in a Chinese environment.
C. Young Chinese students are willing to use their Chinese names.
D. Chinese names are likely to be used between foreigners in the future. 四、任務型阅读 (共10小题,每小题1分,满分10分)

Skilled workers
In January, the State Council published a plan to improve employment in the 13th FiveYear Period (20162020). According to the plan, the salary of skilled workers should be raised, incentive schemes improved, and the qualification and diploma certification system should be refined. It also said that a social atmosphere in which skills are valued should be created to cultivate more skilled workers.
Commercial farmers
In the first document released this year, the central government stated that it would push forward the supplyside reform in the agricultural sector by exploring new ways to make good use of the vacant residential houses and homesteads in the countryside that could add to farmers income.
Cultivating new types of commercial farmers is also in the State Council plan to improve employment in the 13th FiveYear Period in order to increase the income of farmers and create more job openings.
Health care workers
A document jointly released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and three other departments in January stated that a proper level of salary should be paid to health care workers at public hospitals. It also said that revenue from health care services, including consultation, nursing and surgery, should make up a larger share of the total income of hospitals.

The State Council pledged to improve the salary system of grassroots cadres in the 13th FiveYear Period in order to better motivate grassroots cadres through a differentiated incentive system depending on regions and positions.
Scientists and researchers
In a statement published in October, the State Council pledged to build a more knowledgeoriented incentive system in public institutions and enable scientists and researchers to benefit more from the commercialization of scientific research.

One of the most significant actions of your life is that you support someone when you help him or her through a challenging time. However, the best part is that when you support others, you are also supporting yourself. When you refuse to give support to others, it is usually a sign that you are also stopping giving support to yourself.
I was hooked on a story about Donna, which clearly showed the power of support.
Several months ago, Donna had just broken up with her boyfriend and had a difficult time accepting the loss. She refused to be accompanied and stayed at home alone, weeping all the time, which certainly was not helping.
Early one morning, Donna received a phone call with some terrible news: her best friends brother had been killed in an accident. Donna had known this friend, Mary, and her brother nearly her entire life, and the news was devastating. Donna overcame her sadness and got the car soon and drove to Marys house to be with her.
At the funeral and afterwards, she held Mary close while she cried endless tears, sat by her side as the waves of grief washed over Mary, and slept next to her to make sure she did not wake up alone. During that time she hardly felt any sadness in her heart.
Several weeks later, when life began to return to normal, Donna realized that the level of support she had given Mary far overtook any support she had offered herself during her dark time. She was able to use the support she had given her friend as a mirror for the support she needed. When you find yourself unable to support others, see if theres something within yourself that is not supporting. On the contrary, when you give complete support to others, itll mirror those places within you that require the same level of attention.

Helping others is helping oneself. Helping others is not only helpful to others, but also beneficial to both of us. When we help others, we feel a sense of happiness from our inner heart. In addition, we can build a good relationship with others. For example, my deskmate asked me a puzzling Maths problem after class. I was confused at that time, but I tried my best. Eventually, I got the answer. Both of us were impressed with that answer when it appeared in the following examination.
The National Examination is approaching. Everyone would like to be admitted to our ideal university. Helping each other is a must when we face this difficult situation. Seldom can a man reach the summit of success alone. Reach out your helping hand, and you will achieve more than you can imagine. (162 words)
