As we all know, normal liver function is very important for maintaining brain function, but the exact mechanism is not yet clear. One possibility is that the liver produces a substance other than glucose that maintains normal brain function. A cat brain perfusion experiment 20 years ago supported this hypothesis. The author circulates perfusion fluid through the liver and back into the brain, thus allowing the brain to survive longer than without it. However, this finding has not been confirmed by later researchers. Another may be related to the detoxification function of the liver, up to a point has been confirmed by cross-circulatory experiments in rats. When an aorta blood of an anaphoric rat is passed through the portal vein of a normal rat, its brain function improves much more rapidly (in vivo-portal cross-circulation) than in the jugular vein (body-to-body cross-circulation) . This shows that to maintain the normal function of the brain, the liver cleared the poison that inhibits brain function
