轮南凸起经历了晚加里东期、海西期的强烈隆升剥蚀及印支期以来的叠加改造过程.轮南凸起及其周围地区长期处在油气运移的指向上,经历了3个一级波动周期的油气成藏旋回:第一成藏旋回以破坏为特点,第二成藏旋回以改造为特点,第三成藏旋回以富集为特点.轮南地区溶洞系统有3个发育段,缝洞系统发育程度及其连通性是风化壳型油气富集的重要因素,密集发育的裂缝及小断层沟通溶洞就形成油气富集区;而孤立的溶洞由于没有油气来源,钻到溶洞发育区也是出水.在断垒带顶部泄漏区含水;紧邻的斜坡高部位盖层条件欠佳为高渗漏区,是稠油分布区;斜坡低部位以及平台区,晚期油气的充注形成轻质油和凝析油分布区;中、上奥陶统的残存区是寻找早期形成的碳酸盐岩原生油气藏的有利地区.围绕轮南低凸起沿斜坡往下向着凹陷的方向是碳酸盐岩有利油气富集区.准确预测碳酸盐岩缝洞分布区是本区发现油气的前提,而准确识别裂缝及小断裂的分布更是提高勘探成功率的关键.
