Objective:To investigate the significance of electromyography in evaluating the Graves disease complicated with myopathy. Method: The sensory conduction velocity(SCV), motor distal latency (ML) and wave amplitued, F wave and its occurrence rate was detected in 88 nerves(median nerves and posterior tibial nerves) of 44 patients with Graves diseases and EMG of 88 muscles(deltoid and vastus medialis) were observed. Results:In 88 nerves,decreace of SCV of wave amplitude was noted in 16 ones, prolongation of ML or decreace of wave amplitude in 12 ones, prolongation of F wave latency in 4 and decreace of F wave occurrence rate in 4 nerves. Out of 88 muscles detected, 5 muscles showed pathological spontaneous potentials, 58 ones showed polyphasic, short duration and low amplitude of MUAP (66%). Fourty-nine muscles showed pathological recruitments(56%).The results of EMG and the clinical data demonstrated that the degree of muscle lesion have an positive relavation to the severe degree of the disease condition,and the longer the course of disease was ,the severe of the myogenic lesion. If the treatment was effectual ,the lesion muscles recovered significantly. Conchusion:EMG might have an important role in the diagnosis, evaluating the disease condition and therapeatic effect of Graves disease complicated with myopathy.[
