The 10th symposium of the Asian Society of History was solemnly held in Beijing on March 7th and 8th, 2001. Tens of specialists and scholars from China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United States attended the meeting, and more than ten of them delivered academic reports and talks, which concern mainly the archaeology and ancient history of East Asia, including ancient capitals, tombs and irons (the spread of irons and iron metallurgy) in this region, as well as new discoveries and achievements in the study of East Asian capital and city sites. Around these subjects, siminars were organized at the meeting. The symposium reviewed and summarized the accomplishments of relevant studies in the 20th century, and outlined the prospects for the 21st century's historical and archaeological researches.
