In the hot Japanese studies of China in the early 1930s, Chinese folklorists represented by Zhong Jingwen actively launched a two-way academic exchange. Zhong Jingwen couple in 1934 to Japan to study at their own expense. Zhong Jingwen’s academic activities in Japan are based on three identities: writers, foreign students and folklorists. As a writer, Zhong Jingwen and the Japanese literary youth established a long-term academic exchange. At the same time, holding the aura of famous writers, he created favorable conditions for him to earn remuneration. As a foreign student, Zhong Jingwen is an independent student at Waseda University, Studying hard every day, only by way of Japan, far from Europe and the United States folklore theory. As a folklorist, Zhong Jingwen’s dedication to the comparative study of stories shows the academic consciousness of confronting Japan’s cultural colonization and has a profound nationalistic background behind it.
