HIV was isolated in vitro in one of the 18 patients who died 18 hours later, and more recently, an active HIV was observed on the 6th postmortem autopsy. The authors reported 3 patients who had isolated active HIV-1 from autopsy material 2.5, 3.5 and 11 days after death respectively. Example 1, male, 43 years old, same-sex person.
