The life of a piston-cylinder friction pair depends to a great extent on the finishing of the friction surface. It has been determined that the wear mechanism of cast iron parts has its own characteristics due to the presence of free graphite in the cast iron structure. This mechanism is combined with the sticking phenomenon, causing the particles of various metal components to fall off the surface of the cast iron and cause galling. The most widely used method to increase the wear resistance of cast iron parts is to reduce the roughness of the working surface to the desired value. The main difficulty in achieving this goal is the lack of an economical and effective finishing method that yields a machined surface roughness of Ra = 0.2-0.3 μm. This article describes a cast iron piston machining new workers
