Bayanhar Mountains is a typical high permafrost area. South, North Slope of different climate, soil and surface landscape control and affect their spatial distribution of permafrost. Frozen soil survey and temperature data from 2008 to 2012 indicate that the mountain is dominated by permafrost (> -1 ℃). Elevation is the main influencing factor of frozen soil. The decreasing rate of annual average ground temperature decreasing with elevation is 6 ℃ / km on the north slope and 4 ℃ / km on the south slope. On the northern slope of Chalaping and Bayanhala Pass, the active layer thickness is about 1 m, and the active layer thickens with decreasing altitude. The thickness of the active layer on the southern slope is greatly affected by the local factors, but not significantly related to the altitude.
