OBJECTIVE: To detect the level of interleukin 35 (IL-35) in serum and gingival crevicular fluid of patients with periodontitis and analyze the correlation with IL-35 levels and the changes of IL-35 during periodontal disease. Methods: Twenty patients with moderate and severe periodontitis were selected as the experimental group and 20 healthy people as the control group according to the inclusion criteria. The general information of the patients, the probing depth of the periodontal pocket (PD) and the clinical attachment loss (CAL) The samples of venous serum and gingival crevicular fluid were collected. The levels of IL-35 in serum and gingival crevicular fluid were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The Pearson rank correlation test was used to analyze the expression of IL-35 And the relationship with clinical indicators. Results: The mean concentrations of IL-35 in serum and gingival crevicular fluid in the experimental group were (330.42 ± 19.23) ng / m L and (205.56 ± 14.42) ng / m L, respectively, and those in the control group were (206.89 ± 45.01) ng / m L , (101.88 ± 3.34) ng / m L respectively. The level of IL-35 in serum and gingival crevicular fluid of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P <0.01). The levels of IL-35 in serum and gingival crevicular fluid of experimental group were negatively correlated with PD and CAL, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Chronic periodontitis can cause a significant increase of IL-35 in serum and gingival crevicular fluid. The level of IL-35 is negatively correlated with periodontitis.
