People who have close contact with acute or chronic HBV infection have a high risk of contracting HBV. Therefore, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention immunization advisory committee recommended that susceptible individuals who have had sexual contact with HBV carriers should be vaccinated against the recently approved hepatitis B vaccine.
