Sr element was added into Mg93Zn6Y alloy, and the effect of adding amount on the solidification microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy was investigated. The results show that addition of Sr has a refining effect on both the primary α-Mg phase and the secondary phase in the microstructure. With the increase of Sr addition, the average grain size of the alloy gradually decreases from 1 190 μm to 360 μm. At the same time, the second phase has been gradually refined, and the phenomenon of local reunification has also been markedly improved. With the increase of Sr, the mechanical properties of the alloy gradually increased. When 0.4% Sr was added, the tensile strength and elongation of the alloy were 191 MPa and 3.8%, respectively, which were increased by 43.6% and 90.0% compared with the alloy without Sr addition.
