Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, for most librarians, e-consultation meant only indirect remote online searches of remote online systems such as DIALOG, BRS or ORBIT. However, this has changed dramatically in the last 10 years as storage media, search systems and counseling have increased. Various electronic consultation methods At present, the field of library information retrieval is becoming diversified, resulting in a variety of electronic consultation methods. The two main types of methods are remote online retrieval and local database. Remote online search business refers to the dial-up to get the information stored in the field. The business can be divided into commercial and selective. Commercial systems fall into two categories, one for intermediate searchers or for professionals (DIALOG, BRS, ORBIT, etc.) and the other for end users (Knowledge Index, CompuServe, Prodigy and America Online) . Some systems, such as Dow Jones News / Retrieval or mead, attribute and span both, depending on how they are used. Selective online search systems include information resources created by libraries and universities that can be accessed through the Internet, bulletin boards, or other means. For example, some states and counties provide online searches of legislative acts, regulations, or other government documents.
