广州市荔湾区新东小学始建于1929年,现有常规教学班12个。并设有一个特殊教育班。八十载风雨兼程,学校从祠堂——学堂——学校,从村办学校——公办学校,见证了中国近现代教育改革与发展的变迁。多年来,学校依托岭南祠堂文化和校园周边的村落文化,以民族文化教育为切入点,以课堂为主阵地,以课题研究为依托,开发和实施民族文化校本课程,开展了经典诵读、传承节日文化、武术等丰富多彩的活动,让学生传承中华民族不屈不挠、锐意进取、勇于创新的精神,促进了学生的健康发展,获得了社会各界的认可和赞誉。近年来,学校先后被评为广州市绿色学校、第五批广东省现代教育技术实验学校、荔湾区德育达标学校和平安校园。
