A running test of a fuel-water-heavy oil emulsion fuel was carried out on a medium-speed diesel engine with a bore × stroke = 250 × 250 mm to find out the engine performance and the effect of reducing NOx emissions. Considering that at present, technologies to reduce NOx emissions by about 30% with the use of emulsified fuels with lower water rates have been put into practical use, further increases in water rates are limited by a decrease in the cetane number of the fuel, a deterioration in ignitability and an inability of the engine to operate normally To this end, the author developed pilot-injection combustion technology using A heavy oil and achieved the effect that the fuel can still operate normally when the water addition rate reaches 150%. Tests showed that when the pilot injection rate of heavy oil A is 7% and the fuel water addition rate is 110%, the diesel engine can reduce the NOx emission by about 90%.
