Balance Reform Relates China as Asia Center BusinessWeek published a September essay by Harvard economics professor Robert Barro entitled “China’s reform is slow but stable”, pointing out that China is increasingly becoming the economic and political center of Asia. The article holds that since the late 1970s, China has gradually relaxed its central control over agriculture and local enterprises, attracted foreign investment, encouraged the development of private-owned enterprises and effectively promoted the growth of China’s economy. The article also points out that an important factor in China’s success is its gradualist attitude towards economic and political reforms.
