In the ten years since the establishment of the Romanian People’s Republic, Romania’s national economy has undergone profound changes. However, if we do not recall the economic situation in Romania before the Second World War, it is impossible to fully understand the significance and breadth of this change. In the past, industry in Romania was in a state of backwardness and blindness, and it could not be regarded as national wealth. Its industry is almost entirely in the hands of foreign capitalists. They control 91.8% of the petroleum industry, 95% of the gas and power industry, 74% of the metallurgical industry, 73% of the chemical industry, and 70% of the wood industry.
