1999年起,对危害广州沙面古树和大树的白蚁种类进行调查和全面防治,结果表明:危害沙面古树和大树的白蚁种类有台湾乳白蚁Coptotermesformosanus、黑翅土白蚁Odontotermesformosanus和散白蚁Reticulitermessp.,采取了常用的引蚁出巢、毒饵诱杀和直接杀灭的全面防治措施后收到了明显的效果,2003年经专家检查验收,证实沙面的古树和大树没有发现有白蚁直接危害。
