Increased amylase and lipase levels have been observed in patients with end-stage renal disease. The aim of this study was to determine the levels of these enzymes in chronic hemodialysis (HD) and ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients to determine if meaningful predictive values could be found in the dialysis population. Forty-four HD patients, 16 CAPD patients and 22 healthy controls were divided into three groups, with the exception of alcoholism, pancreatic and hepatobiliary disorders, gallstones, and pancreatic toxic drugs. Blood lipase, total alpha-amylase, pancreatic amylase and salivary starch were measured respectively
