刘勰“深识鉴奥”的理论，阐发出读者阅读过程之始，必须具备一定的审美条件，构成特定的内在心理定势的重要性。“深识”是指存在于读者内心的，感性与理性、经验与体验、灵性与悟性、生理与心理等多因素、多层面的有机综合的整体心理结构，以及在实践中持续深积厚累所形成的欣赏主体必须具备的感觉、辨识、知解和穿透欣赏对象的审美接受能力。“鉴奥”正是上述审美主体心理定势所凝聚的复合的接受能力的实践与结果。“深识鉴奥”的运用也显然是审美主体对审美客体反复出入、不断深化的过程、是读者内心感性之识和理性之识，两个不可或缺的心理层面双向流动，逐渐达到和谐统一的欣赏活动。
