The Bluest Eye, published in the 1970s, is a debut by the now famous black female writer Tony Morrison. By reading this novel, readers have experienced that Afro-Americans have lost their traditional culture under the severe influence of racism and thus lived a marginalized sad life and suffered tortured hearts. It is the very stubborn racial discrimination that the loss of traditional black culture, the indifference of family and personal morality led to the tragedy of Pecola, the heroine’s black girl. Through the analysis of Pecola’s tragedy, readers can see that only when black people pick up their own traditional culture to rebuild national self-confidence can they not lose themselves in mainstream society.
