碳滑板最初在欧洲国家使用,日本1924年在上信电气铁道1500V电化之际开始使用。1939年研制成功。由于碳滑板具有良好的润滑性能,对接触导线的磨耗及电弧的产生较少,即使有也只是低温电弧。因此,当时为了节约铜资源,碳滑板倍受重视。碳滑板虽然使接触导线的磨耗减少(0.002~0.01mm/10~4弓架次)。但与其它金属滑板相比,接触电阻大,取流容量小,有使接触线过热之虞。
